Tony La Russa is a former American professional baseball player and manager who has left an indelible mark on the game of baseball. He was born on October 4, 1944, in Tampa, Florida. La Russa attended the University of South Florida and Florida State University, where he played as a shortstop and a pitcher. He began his coaching career in the minor leagues and worked his way up to the Major Leagues.
