Walt Dropo was an American baseball player who played for the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and Baltimore Orioles during his career. Dropo made his major league debut in 1949 with the Boston Red Sox, where he played for five seasons. In his rookie year, he hit .322 with 34 home runs and 144 RBIs, which earned him the American League Rookie of the Year Award. He was also named to the All-Star team in 1950. Dropo was known for his strong defensive skills at first base and his powerful swing.
