After graduating from Ohio State in 2005, Allen was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the NFL draft. He played for the Buccaneers from 2005 to 2009, and during that time, he started 67 games and recorded 389 tackles, five interceptions, and two sacks. In 2010, Allen signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers where he played for two seasons before he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys in 2013. Allen played for the Cowboys for one season before finishing his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014.

During his NFL career, Will Allen was known for his hard-hitting style of play and his leadership in the locker room. He was also active off the field, and he was a nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2011 and 2013. Today, Allen is retired from football, but he remains involved in the community through his foundation, the Will Allen Foundation, which aims to empower young people to reach their full potential through education and leadership development programs.
