Willie Mays was born on May 6th, 1931 in Westfield, Alabama. He began his baseball career in the Negro Leagues and was quickly scouted by the New York Giants. Mays made his Major League Baseball debut on May 25th, 1951, where he immediately showcased his exceptional talent. During Mays's baseball career, he achieved numerous accomplishments. He was a 24-time All-Star, a 12-time Gold Glove winner, and a two-time National League MVP. He was also a 1954 World Series champion, where he made the famous catch known as "The Catch" against the Cleveland Indians. Mays was a five-tool player, demonstrating power, speed, agility, and excellent defensive skills. As a hitter, he had over 3,000 hits, 660 home runs, and a career batting average of .302.

Mays is a legendary figure in baseball history, adored and admired by both players and fans. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979 and his number 24 has been retired by both the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets. Even in retirement, Mays continues to be an influential figure in the game of baseball, and his legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations of players.
