Moses Malone was an American professional basketball player who is considered as one of the greatest centers in the history of the sport. Born on March 23, 1955, in Petersburg, Virginia, Malone played basketball at Petersburg High School where he led his team to three state championships. After high school, Malone was drafted by the Utah Stars in the American Basketball Association (ABA) but chose to play for the professional team, the San Diego Conquistadors. In 1976, the ABA merged with the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Malone was traded to the NBA's Buffalo Braves. He spent one season in Buffalo before playing for three different teams in the following three seasons. However, it was his time with the Houston Rockets where he had his greatest successes as a basketball player. Malone played for the Rockets from 1976 to 1982 where he earned three Most Valuable Player awards and led the Rockets to the NBA Finals in 1981.
