Nick Van Exel's NBA career began when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1993. During his rookie season, he was a backup point guard to Magic Johnson, who retired midway through the season due to his HIV diagnosis. Nick was soon promoted to starting point guard, and he began to make a name for himself in the league. He played for five different teams in his 13-year NBA career, including the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, and Golden State Warriors. He was named an NBA all-star in the 1997-1998 season and reached the NBA finals with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2002-2003 season.

Nick Van Exel was a high-scoring and electrifying point guard, known for his quickness, shooting range, and ability to create shots. Despite being undersized, he was a tenacious defender and a tough competitor on the court. Fans loved his play style, and he was a popular player among both his teammates and opponents. He retired from the NBA in 2006 and went on to become a coach, working as an assistant coach for several NCAA Division I programs and the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA.
