Amir Khan is a British-born Pakistani former professional boxer who enjoyed a successful career in the sport, competing in the lightweight, light welterweight, and welterweight categories. Born on December 8, 1986, in Bolton, England, Khan was introduced to boxing at a young age by his father, who was himself a boxer. Khan turned professional in 2005, and within four years, he had won the WBA light-welterweight title with a first-round knockout victory over Ukrainian boxer Andreas Kotelnik. He went on to defend his title five times before a shock defeat to Lamont Peterson in 2011.
