Sims had a brief but impressive NFL career, playing for just five seasons with the Lions from 1980 to 1984. He was drafted first overall by the Lions in 1980 and made an immediate impact, rushing for a league-leading 1,303 yards and 13 touchdowns in his rookie year. He was also named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1980. In his five seasons with the Lions, Sims ran for a total of 5,106 yards and 42 touchdowns, and was selected to the Pro Bowl three times.

Sims' career was cut short by a devastating knee injury in 1984, which forced him to retire from football prematurely at the age of 29. Despite this setback, he remains one of the most beloved players in Lions history, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In addition to his football career, Sims has also been active in business and philanthropy, and currently owns several successful businesses in Oklahoma. Read even more about Billy Sims at Wikipedia
