Charley Hennigan Autographs

Charley Hennigan was an American Football player best known for his success as a wide receiver in the 1960s. Born in 1935 in Louisiana, he attended Northwestern State University where he played college football. Despite not being a particularly fast runner, Hennigan was known for his exceptional hands and ability to make difficult catches. After graduating from college, he was selected by the Houston Oilers in the 1960 NFL draft.
During his first few years with the Oilers, Hennigan struggled to establish himself as a starting player. However, in the 1961 season, he exploded onto the scene, setting an NFL record for most receiving yards in a season with 1,746 yards. He also caught 12 touchdown passes, helping to lead the Oilers to the AFL championship game. Hennigan continued to perform at a high level throughout the 1960s, earning three Pro Bowl selections and two AFL All-Star game selections.
Despite his impressive career stats, Hennigan remains relatively unknown compared to other NFL greats. This is largely due to the fact that most of his career was spent in the AFL, which was considered a lesser league at the time. However, his achievements as a football player cannot be ignored. Hennigan retired from the sport in 1966 after six seasons with the Oilers, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most talented and prolific wide receivers in football history.
