Deacon Jones was born on December 9, 1938, in the small town of Eatonville, Florida. He grew up near Orlando and attended Hungerford High School where he excelled as an athlete in football, basketball, and track. After graduation, Jones was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 14th round of the 1961 NFL draft. During his 14-year NFL career, Jones became known as one of the greatest defensive players of all time. He was a six-time Pro Bowler and was named the NFL’s defensive player of the year in 1967 and 1968.
