Born on November 7, 1992, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Watt attended Pewaukee High School where he played football as a linebacker, defensive end, tight end, and fullback. After high school, Watt played college football at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he continued playing as a fullback and also became a key special teams contributor. He appeared in 47 games and made 17 starts during his college career, totaling 309 rushing yards, 9 touchdowns, and 39 receptions for 294 yards. In his senior year, he was named a team captain and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a special teams player.

Watt was drafted by the Chargers in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and became a valuable contributor on special teams and as a blocking fullback. He played in 45 games for the Chargers over four seasons, accumulating 18 carries for 79 yards and 1 touchdown, and 29 receptions for 294 yards and 1 touchdown. In March 2020, he signed a three-year contract with the Steelers, reuniting with his brother T.J., a Pro Bowl linebacker. During his only season with the Steelers in 2020, Watt played in 16 games, recording 7 receptions for 55 yards and 10 rushing yards on 9 carries.
