Don Shula was an American football coach and player who spent 33 years coaching in the National Football League (NFL). Born in Grand River, Ohio, in 1930, Shula grew up excelling in sports, particularly football, and earned a scholarship to play at John Carroll University. In 1951, he was signed as a free agent by the Cleveland Browns as a defensive back and appeared in three consecutive NFL Championship games, winning two. He later played for the Baltimore Colts, and it was during this time that he transitioned to a coaching career in the NFL. More about Don Shula
