George Blanda was an American football quarterback and kicking specialist who is widely regarded as one of the most versatile players in the history of the sport. He was born on September 17, 1927, in Youngwood, Pennsylvania. After graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1949, Blanda began his professional career with the Chicago Bears in 1949. He set numerous league records during his career, including most points scored (2,002), most games played (340), most field goals made (335), and most interceptions thrown (277). Blanda was also a three-time Pro Bowl selection and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1981. He passed away on September 27, 2010, at the age of 83.
