Howie Long is a former American Football player who is best known for his career as a defensive end with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders from 1981 to 1993. Born on January 6, 1960, in Charlestown, Massachusetts, Long played college football at Villanova University, where he was named an All-American defensive end. Long quickly established himself as a dominant player on the Raider's defensive line, earning eight Pro Bowl selections and being named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 1985. He was a key member of the Raiders' Super Bowl-winning team in 1984, and three years later, he helped lead the team to another Super Bowl appearance. Over the course of his career, Long recorded 84 sacks and was known for his toughness, intimidation, and leadership qualities. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000, cementing his status as one of the greatest defensive ends of all time.

After retiring from football in 1993, Long went on to have a successful career as a football analyst and television personality. He worked for FOX Sports for many years and was an integral part of the network's coverage of the NFL. Long's contributions to the sport were recognized in 2010 when he received the Pete Rozelle Radio & Television Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which honors outstanding contributions to radio and television in professional football.
