Jim Plunkett was an American football quarterback who had an illustrious career in the sport. He was born on December 5th, 1947 in San Jose, California, and grew up in the area. Plunkett starred in football in high school and was a top recruit for college teams across the country. Plunkett's professional career began when he was drafted by the New England Patriots with the first overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft. He played for the Patriots for five seasons before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers. Plunkett's career took an upturn when he was picked up by the Oakland Raiders in 1978. He replaced an injured Dan Pastorini and went on to lead the Raiders to Super Bowl XV victory, earning the game's MVP award in the process.
