John Cappelletti is a retired American football running back who is best known for his career with the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL). Cappelletti was born on August 9, 1952, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. In the NFL, Cappelletti was drafted by the Rams in the first round of the 1974 NFL Draft. He had a productive rookie season as a backup running back, rushing for 480 yards and catching 23 passes for 236 yards. In 1975, Cappelletti became the Rams' starting running back and had his best season, rushing for 1,052 yards and eight touchdowns. He was named to the Pro Bowl and was also named the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year.

Cappelletti played for the Rams for five seasons before being traded to the San Diego Chargers in 1979. He played two seasons with the Chargers before retiring in 1981. He finished his NFL career with 3,522 rushing yards, 1,683 receiving yards, and 29 touchdowns. After retiring from football, Cappelletti went on to have a successful career in business and also served as a color commentator for college football games for several years.
