Rayfield Wright

Rayfield Wright was born on August 23, 1945, in Griffin, Georgia, USA. He attended Fort Valley State University and began his football career there as a defensive end. However, he switched to the offensive line and quickly became a dominant force. Wright was eventually drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the 1967 NFL draft. He played for the Cowboys for his entire 13-year career, helping them win two Super Bowl championships and being selected to six Pro Bowls. More about Rayfield Wright

Wright was known for his incredible size and speed, standing at 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 255 pounds. He was a versatile player who excelled in both pass protection and blocking for the running game. He played in 166 regular season games, starting in 149 of them. As a key member of one of the greatest offensive lines in NFL history, Wright paved the way for some of the greatest running backs of all time, including Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith.

Wright's outstanding football career was recognized when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006. He had already been inducted into several other Hall of Fames, including the College Football Hall of Fame and the Black College Football Hall of Fame. He also made history as the first African American to be named captain of the Dallas Cowboys.
