Bolland was known for his grit and tenacity on the ice, making him a valuable asset to any team. He was a versatile player who could play both center and wing, and he was particularly adept at penalty killing. Throughout his career, he amassed a reputation as a clutch player, scoring many game-winning goals in crucial moments. In addition to his achievements in the NHL, Bolland also represented Canada in international competition, playing for the national team at the World Junior Championships and the World Championships.

Bolland's hockey career came to an end in 2019, when he announced his retirement from the sport. While injuries had taken their toll on his body, Bolland remained proud of the accomplishments he had achieved in his career. He continued to stay involved in the sport, serving as an ambassador for the Blackhawks and working with the team's youth hockey programs.
