Guy Lafleur

Guy Lafleur, born on September 20, 1951, is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. He started his hockey career with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). In 1971, he was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round, making history as their first-ever first-round draft pick. Lafleur quickly became a fan favorite, known for his speed, scoring ability, and electrifying on-ice performance. Lafleur earned numerous awards and honors during his career, including three Art Ross Trophies as the league's leading scorer, two Hart Trophies as the NHL's most valuable player, and three Lester B. Pearson Awards (now known as the Ted Lindsay Award) as the league's most outstanding player as voted by his peers. In addition, he was named to the NHL's First All-Star Team six times and the Second All-Star Team once. Lafleur retired from the NHL in 1985 after a brief stint with the New York Rangers, but his legacy in the sport is still felt today. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988 and his number 10 jersey was retired by the Montreal Canadiens in 1985.

Off the ice, Lafleur continues to be involved in the hockey community. He established the Guy Lafleur Foundation, which raises funds for children with heart disease, and he also serves as an ambassador for the Montreal Canadiens. His impact on the sport extends beyond his impressive statistics and accolades. Lafleur brought a level of excitement and skill to the game that fans still appreciate today.
