Joe Thornton is a Canadian professional ice hockey player, born on July 2, 1979, in London, Ontario, Canada. He started his career with the St. Thomas Stars of the Western Ontario Junior Hockey League and then played for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League. Thornton was selected as the first overall pick of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. He was named as the NHL Rookie of the Year in 1998-99. More about Joe Thornton
