Jerry Lewis was an American comedian, actor, singer, and film producer whose career spanned over six decades. Lewis was born on March 16, 1926, in Newark, New Jersey, to Russian-Jewish parents. He grew up in a poor family and started performing at the age of five, appearing in various vaudeville acts with his parents. Lewis began his movie career in the 1940s, starring in a number of comedy films alongside his partner, Dean Martin. The duo became one of the most successful comedy duos in the history of cinema, starring in a total of 16 films together. Their partnership lasted from 1946 to 1956, and during this time, they appeared in a number of successful films such as At War with the Army, The Caddy, and Artists and Models. Jerry Lewis went on to have a successful solo career in movies, starring in over 50 films, producing and directing many of them himself. Some of his most notable movies include The Nutty Professor, The Bellboy, and The Errand Boy.

Lewis was also known for his philanthropic work, raising millions of dollars for charity through his annual telethons for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He was honored with numerous awards throughout his career, including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
