Martin enjoyed a successful baseball career, playing for four different teams during his career in the major leagues. Over time, he developed a reputation for being a reliable catcher, particularly while playing for the Chicago White Sox. He was instrumental in the team’s success during the 1960 season, where they clinched their first American League pennant in 40 years.
