Jerry began his professional career in 1960 when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers. He quickly emerged as a dominant force in the NBA, earning the nickname “Mr. Clutch” for his ability to deliver in high-pressure situations. West played his entire career in L.A., leading the Lakers to nine NBA Finals appearances and one championship in 1972. Jerry was known for his exceptional shooting skills and was the first player in NBA history to average more than 40 points per game in a season.

West’s basketball legacy extends beyond his playing career. After retiring in 1974, he became a coach for the Lakers and later served as the team’s general manager. Jerry was instrumental in recruiting Kobe Bryant to the Lakers, leading to five NBA championships in the 2000s. In 2011, West was recognized with the NBA Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the game. Today, he is celebrated as an iconic figure in basketball and is considered one of the greats.
