J.R. House Autograph

James Russell House, better known as J.R. House, was an accomplished baseball player who made his mark in the sport during the late 1990s to early 2000s. He was born on November 11, 1979, in Charleston, West Virginia, and entered the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft straight out of high school in 1998. The Pittsburgh Pirates selected House with their fifth-round pick, and he went on to play several positions - including catcher, third base, and outfield - throughout his professional career. House began his professional baseball career with the Pirates' minor league team, the Williamsport Crosscutters, in 1998. He quickly rose through the ranks and made his MLB debut in 2003 with the Pirates. He played for the team for three seasons, hitting .227 with 4 home runs and 17 runs batted in (RBI) in a total of 32 games. In 2006, he joined the Houston Astros and spent two seasons with the team, improving his hitting stats and catching 56 games in total. House then played with several other organizations, including the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Houston Astros again, before retiring in 2011.

Despite retiring relatively early, J.R. House left a lasting legacy in baseball. He was a rare baseball talent, known for his versatility on the field and his natural athleticism. He also set a University of West Virginia career record by hitting 56 home runs in his time with the Mountaineers. In addition to his baseball career, House was also a standout football player in high school and was courted by numerous Division I football programs before choosing baseball. House is currently serving as the head baseball coach at his alma mater, Nitro High School, where he continues to inspire and teach young players the game. Read even more about J.R.
