Darrell Waltrip is an American former NASCAR driver who was born on February 5th, 1947 in Owensboro, Kentucky, US. He began his racing career in the late 1960s and quickly became one of the most successful drivers in the history of the sport. Between 1972 and 1974, Waltrip raced in the Grand National East circuit and won the championship in 1974. He then earned a promotion to the Cup series, where he competed for over 20 years. Waltrip's first win in the Cup series was the 1975 Winston Cup which he won with Di/Gatorade Chevrolet. Throughout the next decade, he became one of the most successful drivers in NASCAR history, and he is considered one of the greatest drivers to ever race in the sport. In 1987, he was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and was later inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2012.

After retiring from racing, Waltrip became a racing analyst for FOX Sports and worked as a commentator for NASCAR races. He is also a successful car owner, having formed Waltrip Racing in 1991 which later merged with Michael Waltrip Racing in 2007. Darrell Waltrip is remembered as one of the most accomplished NASCAR drivers in history and has contributed much to the sport, both on and off the racetrack.
