After college, Wambach began her professional career playing for the Washington Freedom in the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA). She quickly gained a reputation as one of the best players in the league, and in 2003 she was named the league MVP. In 2011, she helped lead the United States Women's National Team to victory in the FIFA Women's World Cup, scoring the game-winning goal in the quarterfinals against Brazil. Throughout her career, Wambach broke records left and right, finishing with an incredible 184 international goals, the most of any male or female soccer player in history.

Beyond her impressive accomplishments on the field, Wambach has also been an outspoken advocate for women's sports and LGBTQ+ rights. She has been a vocal critic of FIFA's treatment of women's soccer and has called for greater investment in the sport. Since her retirement in 2015, Wambach has continued to speak out on important issues while also working as a TV analyst and motivational speaker.
