Diego Costa's major breakthrough came during his loan spell with Rayo Vallecano in 2012, where he scored 10 goals in 27 games. Atletico Madrid eventually signed him on a permanent basis in 2014, and he went on to become one of the most lethal strikers in Europe. Costa enjoyed a successful career at Atletico, scoring 52 goals in 89 appearances, and helping the team win the La Liga title in 2014. He also helped the club reach the UEFA Champions League finals twice in three years, losing to city rivals Real Madrid on both occasions.

Diego Costa’s transfer to Chelsea in 2014 for a fee of 32 million pounds sterling made him one of the most expensive strikers in the world at that time. He enjoyed a stellar debut season in the Premier League, scoring 20 goals in 26 games as Chelsea won the title that year. Costa’s physicality, aggression, and goalscoring prowess made him a fan favorite at Chelsea, but he also had his fair share of controversies on and off the pitch. After falling out with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte in 2017, Costa returned to Atletico Madrid, where he spent two more seasons before moving to Brazil to play for Atletico Mineiro in 2021.
