Al Worden was an American astronaut and fighter pilot who played an instrumental role in the Apollo 15 lunar mission. He was born on February 7, 1932, in Jackson, Michigan, and attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. After graduating with a degree in military engineering, he became a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force and flew combat missions during the Korean War.
