In 1963, Aldrin was selected as part of NASA's third group of astronauts. He served as the backup pilot for Gemini 10 in 1966, and then went on to join the historic Apollo 11 mission in 1969. Alongside Neil Armstrong, Aldrin descended to the lunar surface and famously declared, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." During his time on the moon, Aldrin conducted experiments and collected samples, solidifying his place in history as a space exploration pioneer.

After his space career ended, Aldrin became an advocate for space exploration and research. He founded the ShareSpace Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes science literacy and inspires young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Aldrin also wrote several books, including his memoirs, which detail his experiences as an astronaut and his personal battle with depression. Throughout his career and beyond, Aldrin has remained an icon of American space exploration and a passionate advocate for the future of space science. Read even more about Buzz Aldrin at Wikipedia
