David Low Autograph

David Low was a British aerospace engineer and space engineer who was born on April 19, 1956, in Rustington, England. He received a degree in mathematics and engineering from the University of Warwick and a Ph.D. in aerodynamics from the University of Southampton. He worked at the Royal Aircraft Establishment and the Defense Evaluation and Research Agency before joining the European Space Agency (ESA) in 1990. More about David Low

Low's early years at ESA were focused on developing advanced computer simulations and models for designing and testing space vehicles. He was involved in the design and testing of several iconic ESA missions, including the Huygens Probe for Cassini–Huygens, which landed on Saturn's moon Titan in 2005. Later, he was responsible for the development of the propulsion system for the Mars Express and Rosetta spacecraft, which were launched in 2003 and 2004, respectively. Low also played a critical role in the development of the Mars Sample Return mission, which aims to bring back samples from the Martian surface for analysis on Earth.

Low's contributions to the space industry have earned him numerous accolades and honours. In 2004, he was awarded the British space technology award for his work on the Mars Express mission. He also received the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award in 2007 for his lifetime achievements in space exploration. Low passed away on October 11, 2018, after a brief illness, but his legacy continues to influence space exploration to this day. He inspired countless engineers and scientists to continue pushing the boundaries of space technology and strive towards new and exciting breakthroughs.
