Al Jackson spent his best years as a pitcher with the New York Mets franchise between 1962 and 1965. In his debut season with the Mets, he became the team's first-ever All-Star game representative. He was known for his precise control of the ball, and the Metropolitans relied on him heavily for their success during their early years as an expansion team. Jackson's stat sheet is impressive; he posted more than 1,000 strikeouts and won 67 games while compromising an ERA of 3.83.

Unfortunately, despite his exceptional talents, Al Jackson never had the opportunity to experience the World Series victory with the New York Mets. In 1965, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, then to the Cincinnati Reds before ending his career with the Houston Astros in 1969. After retiring as a player, he remained active in baseball, serving as a coach and scout for teams such as the Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Chicago Cubs. He passed away on August 16, 2019, at the age of 83, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest players in New York Mets history. Read even more about Al Jackson at Wikipedia
