Chuck Harmon was born on April 23, 1924, in Washington, Indiana. He later moved to Cincinnati and attended Withrow High School, where he played both football and baseball. Harmon then attended the University of Toledo, where he played baseball and basketball. He was signed by the Cincinnati Reds in 1947 and played in their minor league system until he made his debut as a pinch hitter on April 17, 1954. More about Chuck Harmon

Harmon played for the Reds from 1954-1956 and was the first African American player to play for the team. During his career, he primarily played as an outfielder and third baseman. In 1955, he hit .297 with four home runs and 23 RBI in 81 games. He played his last season in the major leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1957 before continuing his career in the minor leagues until his retirement in 1962.
