Ernie Johnson was born on August 16, 1924, in Brattleboro, Vermont, and went on to become one of the most beloved broadcasters in the history of baseball. His career in baseball began as a player, where he was a pitcher for the Boston Braves from 1950 to 1958. During his playing career, he earned the nickname "The Brat" for his fiery demeanor on the mound. After his playing career ended, Johnson found his true calling as a broadcaster. He began calling games for the Milwaukee Braves in 1959 and later moved on to cover the Atlanta Braves, where he remained until his retirement in 1999. Johnson's signature style and unique voice made him a fan favorite, and he was renowned for his ability to paint vivid pictures with his words.
