Valenzuela began his professional baseball career in 1979 when he was scouted by the Los Angeles Dodgers during a trial in Mexico. He made his major league debut on April 9th, 1980, and quickly became a fan favorite due to his quirky pitching windup and exceptional skills on the mound. In his first full season with the Dodgers in 1981, Valenzuela won both the National League Rookie of the Year Award and the Cy Young Award, becoming the only player in history to win both in the same season.
