Vazquez had a successful career in the MLB, racking up 165 wins, 1,412 strikeouts, and a 4.22 earned run average (ERA) in 2,810.2 innings pitched. He was selected to the MLB All-Star team three times in his career and completed six seasons with 200 or more strikeouts. Vazquez was also recognized for his impressive control on the mound, as he only issued 469 walks in 484 games played. In 2011, after playing 14 seasons in the big leagues, Javier Vazquez retired from professional baseball.

Aside from his MLB career, Vazquez also represented Puerto Rico in several international tournaments, including the World Baseball Classic, where he helped lead his country to third place in 2006. His accomplishments on and off the field have made him a respected figure in the baseball community.
