Livan Hernandez is a former professional baseball player born in Cuba on February 20, 1975. Hernandez began playing baseball in his hometown of Villa Clara, Cuba, where he quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent on the mound. In 1995, at the age of 20, Hernandez defected from Cuba and began playing professional baseball in the United States. Hernandez's major league debut came in 1996 with the Florida Marlins. During his rookie season, he gained national attention by leading the Marlins to their first World Series victory. Hernandez was named the Most Valuable Player of the series after pitching a complete game shutout in the decisive game seven against the Cleveland Indians.
