Lou Piniella, born on August 28, 1943, is a former professional baseball player and manager. Piniella played from 1964 to 1984, making his debut with the Baltimore Orioles. During his playing career, he played for five teams, including the New York Yankees, where he won two World Series titles in 1977 and 1978. After his playing career, Piniella shifted to coaching and managing. He started as a coach for the Yankees and eventually became the manager of the team in 1986. He led the Yankees to the American League pennant in 1986 and was recognized as the Manager of the Year for his efforts. Piniella went on to manage for several more teams, including the Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners and the Chicago Cubs.
