In 2013, Plumlee was drafted 22nd overall by the Brooklyn Nets, and he played three seasons with the team. He was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in 2015, where he had a breakout season and established himself as one of the most promising centers in the league. In 2017, he signed with the Denver Nuggets where he continues to play today. Over the course of his career, Plumlee has averaged 8.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, and has been recognized for his athleticism and high basketball IQ.

Aside from his NBA career, Plumlee has also represented the United States in international competitions. He won a gold medal with the USA Men's Basketball team at the 2014 FIBA World Cup, and a bronze medal at the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
