Nate Schierholtz was born on February 15, 1984, in Reno, Nevada. He grew up in a baseball family, with his father Jeff being the head baseball coach at Galena High School. Nate played baseball throughout his childhood and continued to play at Chabot College in California. In 2003, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the second round of the MLB draft. Schierholtz made his major league debut with the Giants on June 10, 2007. He quickly became known for his strong arm in the outfield and his ability to hit for power. In 2011, he had a breakout season, hitting 9 home runs and driving in 41 runs in just 115 games. He also set a career-high with a .278 batting average.

After six seasons with the Giants, Schierholtz played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals, and Detroit Tigers. He retired from professional baseball in 2018, finishing his career with a .253 batting average, 52 home runs, and 224 RBIs.
