In 2000, Harden was selected in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Seattle Mariners, but he chose to attend Central Arizona College instead of going pro. Two years later, he was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 17th round of the draft and joined their minor league team. He made his Major League debut with the Athletics on July 21, 2003, and became an essential part of the franchise's rotation for the next few years.

Harden's career was often marred by injuries, causing him to miss a significant chunk of the 2006 and 2007 seasons. However, he bounced back in 2008 with 141 strikeouts, seven wins, and a 2.07 ERA, helping lead the Athletics to the American League Championship Series. He also represented Canada in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, but following injuries and inconsistencies, he retired in 2012. Overall, during his time in Major League Baseball, Harden amassed 59 wins, 9 saves, and 949 strikeouts in 928.2 innings pitched. Read even more about Rich Harden at Wikipedia
