Roberto Hernandez is a former professional baseball player who spent 17 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a relief pitcher. Hernandez was born on November 11, 1964, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, and he began playing baseball as a child. After attending the University of South Carolina, Hernandez was drafted by the California Angels in the first round of the 1986 MLB draft. Hernandez was known for his ability to pitch in high-pressure situations and his consistency throughout his career. He was a two-time All-Star and finished in the top 10 in saves seven times. Hernandez's best season came in 1999 when he recorded 43 saves and had a 1.91 ERA for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He also helped the Cleveland Indians reach the World Series in 1997, where they lost to the Florida Marlins.

After retiring from baseball in 2007, Hernandez went on to work as a pitching coach and consultant for several teams, including the Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, and Miami Marlins. He was also inducted into the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum Hall of Fame in 2011. Hernandez's career as a player and coach has left a lasting impact on the game of baseball, and he is remembered as one of the most reliable and effective relief pitchers of his generation.
