Trevor Hoffman is a former right-handed relief pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 18 seasons. He was born on October 13, 1967, in Bellflower, California. Hoffman grew up playing baseball with his brother Glenn, who also played in the major leagues, and their father Ed, who was a former minor league player. Hoffman’s baseball career began at the University of Arizona where he played for two seasons before being drafted in the 11th round of the 1989 MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds. Hoffman started his professional baseball career as a minor league player in the Reds' organization before being traded to the San Diego Padres in 1993. He started as a setup man but became the team's closer after an injury to the previous closer. In the following years, Hoffman established himself as one of the top closers in the league. He is best known for his signature pitch, the change-up, which he used to strike out many batters throughout his career. Hoffman was selected to seven All-Star teams and won two Reliever of the Year awards.
