Maynard's career with the Jets is where he made his biggest impact in the NFL. He played for the Jets from 1960 to 1972, and during this time, he was an essential part of the team's run to the AFL Championship in 1968 and Super Bowl III victory. He became a favorite target of quarterback Joe Namath and set numerous records throughout his time with the Jets. These records included most touchdowns in a season (14), most consecutive games with a reception (62), and most receiving yards in a season (1,434).

After retiring from football, Maynard continued to be involved in the sport as a coach for several high school teams in Texas. In 1987, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, solidifying his place among the all-time greats of the game. Don Maynard will always be remembered as a trailblazer for the wide receiver position and a vital part of one of the greatest upsets in football history.
