Ed Sprinkle, also known as "The Meanest Man in Pro Football", was born on September 3, 1923, in Bradshaw, Texas. He played college football at Hardin-Simmons University, where he played as a defensive tackle and left end. In 1944, Sprinkle joined the United States Navy and was assigned to play for the Great Lakes Naval Bluejackets, a military team that played against college and professional football teams. Sprinkle was also an integral part of the Bears' 1946 NFL Championship team, where he recorded 12.5 sacks and six fumble recoveries. He was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1970, the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame in 1994, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1964.
