George Koonce Autograph
George Koonce was born on April 23, 1969, in Florence, South Carolina. He attended the University of East Carolina, where he played football for four years as a linebacker. He accumulated 467 career tackles, which remains a record for the university to this day. In 1992, Koonce was selected in the ninth round of the NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers. He was an important part of the Packers' defense for eight seasons, playing in 118 games and recording 746 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and two interceptions. He started the George Koonce Jr. Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to students who have overcome significant challenges in their lives to pursue higher education. Koonce has also been involved in advocating for better support for retired NFL players, particularly in the areas of mental health and financial stability. In 2012, he published a book titled Is There Life After Football?
