After college, Tingelhoff went undrafted but was signed as a free agent by the Minnesota Vikings in 1962. He played his entire 17-year NFL career with the Vikings, starting in 240 consecutive games, which at the time was the longest streak for a center in NFL history. Tingelhoff was a six-time Pro-Bowler, five-time All-Pro and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.

Tingelhoff was known for his durability, toughness and leadership on the field. He anchored one of the best offensive lines in NFL history, known as the "Purple People Eaters". The Vikings won 10 division titles during Tingelhoff's career, but unfortunately never won a Super Bowl. Tingelhoff's contributions to the game of football were recognized with his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute to one of the greatest centers in NFL history.
