Greg Joly Autograph
Greg Joly was born on October 30, 1954, in Vernon, British Columbia. He grew up having a passion for hockey and went on to become a professional hockey player. Joly played his junior hockey career with the Regina Pats, and in 1974 he entered the National Hockey League (NHL) at the draft as the first overall pick. During his time with the Capitals, Joly became a sturdy defenseman known for his physicality and fearless approach to the game. He also proved to be an offensive threat on the ice, amassing 30 points in his rookie season. Unfortunately, Joly's career was shortened by injury, and he was forced to retire in 1987 at the age of 32. However, he transitioned into coaching and joined the Western Hockey League's Seattle Thunderbirds as an assistant coach in 1996.
Today, Joly is recognized as one of the most important players in Washington Capitals history. His legacy lives on in the team's record books, where he still holds the record for most goals and points in a single season by a defenseman.
