Joe Nieuwendyk was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who was born in Oshawa, Ontario, on September 10, 1966. Known for his deft scoring skills and fierce competitiveness, Nieuwendyk enjoyed a long and successful career that saw him play for four different National Hockey League (NHL) teams over the course of nearly two decades. Nieuwendyk's career in the NHL began in 1986 when he was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the second round. He quickly proved himself to be a valuable asset to the team, playing a key role in their 1989 Stanley Cup victory. Over the next several years, Nieuwendyk continued to put up impressive numbers, earning two more Cup championships with the Dallas Stars, one of which he was named the playoff MVP.
