Matt Calvert is a professional ice hockey player from Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. He was born on December 24, 1989, and has been playing hockey since he was a young child. Calvert began his career in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Brandon Wheat Kings in 2006. Calvert was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, 127th overall. He made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets on October 7, 2010, against the San Jose Sharks. Calvert quickly became a fan favorite in Columbus, known for his tenacity and work ethic on the ice. In his first playoffs with the Blue Jackets in 2014, Calvert scored two overtime game-winning goals, including the series-clinching goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Calvert played for the Blue Jackets for eight seasons before signing with the Colorado Avalanche as a free agent in 2018.
