Adam Greenberg was born on February 21, 1981, in New Haven, Connecticut. He attended Guilford High School, where he played baseball and earned All-State honors twice. After graduating, Greenberg attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he played college baseball for the Tar Heels. In the 2002 Major League Baseball draft, Greenberg was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the ninth round. He began his professional career in the Cubs' minor league system, where he quickly showed promise. In 2005, Greenberg was called up to the major leagues and made his debut on July 9. However, tragedy struck just one pitch into his first at-bat when he was hit in the head by a pitch, suffering a concussion and ending his season. Despite working hard to return to the majors, Greenberg was never given another chance, and he spent the rest of his baseball career in the minor leagues and independent leagues.

After his baseball career ended, Greenberg became a motivational speaker and advocate for concussion awareness. He also co-founded the Headfirst Concussion Initiative, which aims to educate athletes, parents, and coaches about concussion prevention and management. In 2012, the Miami Marlins gave Greenberg a one-day contract and a chance at redemption, allowing him to bat one time in a major league game. Greenberg struck out, but the moment was a touching tribute to his perseverance and determination in the face of adversity.
